Entry Information:
Entry Fees:
$45 per team (single gender), $80 for both male & female teams, or
$6.00 per individual event.
Entry Limits: Three (3) individual entries per event per team. Four
(4) events maximum per athlete (including relays). One (1) relay entry
per event per team. Relay team members, including alternates, must be
registered (minimum of 4 and maximum of 8).
Qualifying Standards:
There are no qualifying standards. There will be opening heights in
Pole Vault & High Jump. Women: Pole Vault (7'6"), High Jump
(4'2"), Men: Pole Vault (9'6"), High Jump (5'6").

No changes to your entries can be made after the entry deadline.
Athletes biographies:
Email Meet Publicity with highlights of star athletes you are
entering so we may recognize their accomplishments. Include Name, PR's,
Mark or Time, Place, State or National Titles (including year) and
Events.
Performance Lists : Performance lists will be posted on the
Coach
O website Thursday before the meet.
Eligibility & Sanctions: We have requested sanctions from the
National Federation of State High School Associations for North
Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia. Only member
high schools can attend. It is your responsibility to confirm that
your state association has sanctioned this meet. Postgraduate students
who have completed the 12th grade cannot compete. Participants must be
certified and eligible to compete in their state associations.
Unattached athletes: No unattached athletes may enter meet.
Athletes must be affiliated with a high school team.

Facilities: Eight-lane latex MaxFlex track surface.
Timing: Fully Automatic Timing by Slip Stream Timing.
Blue Ride Classic Educational Scholarships: Two $500 Educational
Scholarships will be awarded at the meet to male and female
participating athletes. Athletes must be nominated in advance of the
meet by their coaches. March 19th is the entry deadline for scholarship
nominations.
Shoe Raffle: Running shoes and spikes to be
awarded to athletes and student-helpers at the meet. Winners will be
chosen by raffle, and your athletes may enter the raffle at the T-Shirt
sales Tent. Winners will be chosen at the
Opening Ceremony right after lunch
Inclement Weather:
The meet will only be cancelled in the event of a significant snow or
ice storm. The will not be cancelled in the event of rain. We will adhere
to the NFHS rules regarding lightning (30 sec and 30 minute rule). We
have professionally installed staging tents for athletes.

When you arrive at the meet:
Unloading and parking of team buses:
Team buses will be directed to the parking lot behind the high school.
When you turn onto Rocket Drive to the high school from Highway 74A, you
will be directed to turn left just after the softball field. Follow that
road behind the high school to the parking lot. Coaches bringing one or
a few athletes with them in cars are also encouraged to park with team
buses. This parking lot is the closest to the high school, and from it
you will immediately find Packet Pickup, Packet Pickup and Check In.

Tickets and spectator entrance:
Tickets for the general public are available at the gate for $6 per
person. Children under 5 are admitted free. The only entrance to the
meet for paying spectators is from the upper parking
lot in front of the stadium.
Packet pickup: Packet Pickup is located in the school cafeteria
beginning at 7:00 A.M. Follow the signs from the parking lot to the
cafeteria which is located on the way to the track. Athletes and coaches
will not be allowed to enter the stadium area without wearing meet
identification received at Packet Pickup.
Team tents setup:
Anywhere in
Visitor Stands. Sides and top twelve rows only in Home Stands.
Scratch Meeting: There will be a scratch meeting at 8:30 hosted
by one of the Meet Directors in the Awards Tent in the middle of the field. A second
scratch meeting may also be held in the afternoon. If so, this will be
announced.
Lunch break: There will be a 30 minute lunch break immediately
after the finish of the preliminary races. Lunch for coaches at the
Hospitality Tents starts at 1:30. This may be earlier than the official
lunch break.
Coaches Hospitality: Breakfast beginning at 7:00, and lunch
beginning at official lunch break in the Hospitality Tents (north side of the Tennis Courts) for team
coaches wearing meet identification. Hospitality Tents open all day for snacks &
drinks for team coaches. Dinner will be served in the late afternoon
beginning approximately at 4:00 p.m. and will be announced.
Concessions: The concession stand on the home team side will be
open during the meet. Healthy "Athlete's Special" lunch choices will be
available.
Track supplies at the meet:
Foot RX Running will have a tent in the Blue Ridge
Village.
First aid/trainer: First aid and trainer services at Trainer Tent in the "Blue Ridge Village"
area. Free taping and icing for all
athletes and team coaches.
Implement Weigh In:
All
throwing implements must be weighed in at Implement Weigh In from
7:30-8:45 located in
the school cafeteria. This is the same location for Packet Pickup and
Meet Hospitality. Athletes must provide their own
throwing implements.
Pole Vault Weigh In:
All Vault Contestants must weigh in at the school cafeteria. Women from
8:00-9:00, Men from 9:00-10:00
Open track: Open Track: The track will be open from 6:00 to 8:45
a.m. and during the lunch break for warm up.
Warm up areas: Ipods or other personal
musical devices with earphones only are allowed.
Restricted areas: Coaches risk the disqualification of their
athletes if they violate the following rules concerning restricted areas
and competition venues:
Baseball Facilities & Football Field (except
designated walkways): Off limits
Jumps & Throws
Venues: Off limits at all times except for athletes in competition.
The only exception is
the Pole Vault "Coaches Box".
Track: Athletes only
Staging Tent: Athletes
only

Competition and rules enforcement
The Blue Ridge Classic Meet will run according to the rules set forth in
the current NFHS Rules and Case Book. These rules will be strictly
enforced. We do not want to have to disqualify anyone for infraction of
these rule. Competing while wearing jewelry, hair accessories or
headwear and/or using electronic devices is a safety hazard to the
athlete and other competitors and will not be tolerated.
Jewelry Rules:
A. No jewelry is to be worn during warm-ups or in competition. (This
includes rings, studs, earrings, anklets and bracelets of any
material). Jewelry cannot be covered with tape or a band aid. Jewelry
also includes tongue and naval rings. Athletes will not be required to
open their mouths or lift their shirts; however if a meet official sees
these items during the competition, it falls under the jewelry rule.
B. Medical alert medals or tags are not considered jewelry. The
alert should be visible. When the medal is attached to bracelets made of
metal or an unyielding material, it shall be taped to the body. If the
bracelet is made of pliable material, it is not required to be taped to
the body. A medical alert tag attached to a necklace must be taped to
the body.
C. Religious medals are not considered jewelry and must be worn
under the uniform and taped to the body.
D. Sports watches for the 1600 & 3200M Runs are
allowed.
E. Unadorned devices, such as bobby pins, barrettes and hair clips,
no longer than 2 inches, may be worn to control a competitor's hair.
Jewelry Violation Penalty:
For the first violation, the competitor shall be required to remove
the jewelry before further competition, the team shall receive a team
warning and a subsequent violation by any team member shall result in
disqualification of that current athlete from the event. The referee
shall be notified of the violation by the observing meet official and
he/ she shall then notify the head coach of the offending school of the
violation and the team warning.
Hair Accessories & Headwear:
Headwear including do-rags, bandanas, skullcaps and hats are not allowed
during warm-ups or in competition. Unadorned devices, such as bobby
pins, barrettes and hair clips, no longer than 2 inches, and rubber
bands, cloth headbands and scrunchies, may be worn to control a
competitor's hair. Adorned devices, beads or hard plastic balls are
prohibited. Athletes that must wear headwear for religious purposes
must inform the Clerk of Course when checking
in.
Electronic Devices: No cell phones, ipods or other electronic
devices are allowed in the competition areas (including Staging Tent).
IPODS or personal musical devices (with earphones only) are allowed in
the warm up areas.
Relay Uniforms:
A. Each team member shall wear the same color and design of
school uniform although the length of the bottom or one-piece uniform
may vary. If two members of the relay team have on uniforms with the
school name and the other two have uniforms that has the mascot or
mascot name on it, the uniforms are not the same.
B. Any visible garment(s) worn by two or more relay team
members underneath the uniform top and/or bottom shall be unadorned and
of the same single, solid color but not necessarily the same length.
These include compression shorts, tights and/or t-shirts. The t-shirts
and compression shorts or tights do not have to be the same color as the
uniform but all relay members must have the same colors.
C. Jog Bras and socks are not considered to be part of the
uniform. They may be any color.
Key Uniform Rules:
A. Each competitor shall wear a full length track top and
bottom, or a one-piece uniform issued by the school and worn as intended
by the manufacturers. Rolling the waistband of shorts is a violation of
this rule.
B. The top or one-piece uniform may have school
identification and the top may have the competitor's name.
C. Plain T-shirts of any color, cutoffs, football jerseys,
shorts with a football, basketball or other sport logo are not allowed.
D. The top portion of the uniform shall hang or fall
below or be tucked into the bottom portion when the competitor is
standing upright.
E. Bare midriff tops are not allowed.
F. The waistband of a competitor's shorts shall be worn above
the hips AND MAY NOT BE ROLLED DOWN.
G. Any visible garment(s) worn underneath the uniform top or
bottom must be unadorned and of a single, solid color. This includes the
stitching.
H. Loose-fitting, boxer type or compression-type bottoms are
permitted for boys and girls. Closed-leg briefs are acceptable for
girls. French or high-cut apparel shall not be worn in lieu of the
uniform bottom.
Removal of Team Uniform Violation & Penalty:
Removing any part of the team uniform, excluding shoes, while in the
area of competition is illegal. Doing so by the competing athlete shall
lead to a warning, and if repeated, to disqualification from the event.
If the incident recurs, the competitor will be disqualified from further
competition in the meet.
Track Events
Rolling Schedule: finals after
lunch break
Scratch
Meeting: There will be a scratch meeting at 8:30 hosted by Meet
Director in the Awards Tent in the middle of the field. A second scratch
meeting may also be held in the afternoon. If so, this will be
announced. Please attend these meetings. Scratching athletes will allow
for reseeding of heats, and eliminate heats with only few athletes. This
will help the meet flow faster.
Calls: Three calls for each event, at 15, 10 and 5 minutes.
Check
in and warm up clothing: Prior to checking in, have your athletes remove
their warm-up clothing (sweat pants, sweat shirt, etc). The Check In
Clerks need to be able to see their uniform. If they report with these
clothes items on they will be asked to step to the back of the line to
remove them. After they are checked in they may put these items back on.
Disqualification will occur at check in if the athlete is in violation
of Meet Jewelry, Electronic Devices or Relay Uniform Rules.
Spikes and blocks: ¼” pyramid only. Athletes will not be allowed to
use their own blocks.
Relay exchange zone accessories:
Tape only for marks. Batons provided.
Hip numbers: Hip numbers must be worn on the right hip along the
seam of the shorts.
Seeding: All first round events (prelims) will be randomly
seeded. Running events that do not have preliminaries will be run as
finals with sections vs. time events, seeded from slow to fast, with the
slowest sections run first.
Lapped runners: Lapped runners in the distance races will be
moved to lane 3.
Advancement to the finals in track events: The top eight times in
the running preliminaries will advance to the finals. with sections vs.
times, and the slowest sections always
running first. The winners in these races will be the top eight
performances overall.
Posting of results and finals qualifiers: Names of the eight
finalists for the 100, 110 & 300 M Hurdles, and 100, 200 & 400 M Dashes
will be posted during the lunch break.
Results Boards: Blue Ridge Village on tennis court fence.
Start of finals in track events: Finals will begin after lunch
and immediately after opening ceremony.
4x800M relay teams: 4X800M Relay teams should be prepared to report
to Clerk Tent towards the end of the lunch break.
Field Events
Field events check in: Competitors in the field events should
check in at the field event venue at the designated time or they will be
scratched from the event. Disqualification
will occur if the athlete reports to the field venue and is in violation
of Meet Jewelry, Electronic Devices or Relay Uniform Rules.
Starting heights: Women: Pole Vault (7'6"), High Jump
(4'2"), Men: Pole Vault (9'6"), High Jump (5'6"). Vaulters must supply
their own poles,
poles,
and these must be labeled with proper weight certification. Athletes
whose poles do not have this certification will not be allowed to use
them. All Vault Contestants must weigh in at the school cafeteria. Women
from 8:00-9:00, Men from 9:00-10:00
Advancement to the finals in the field events: The top nine marks will
advance to finals. All field events will be in flights with the weaker
flights always competing first. Competitors should stay at the venue
until the finalists are announced.
Jumps and throws competitors in the track events: Jumps and throws
competitors who must leave the jump or throw competition to check in for
running events should wait until the 2nd call before doing so. They
should first ask the Field Event Judge running at their event if they
can leave to run before doing so. Upon return they will be allowed any
jumps or throws they missed. High jump and pole vault competitors, upon
return to the competition, will have to reenter the competition at the
current height.
Protests, awards and scoring
Protests:
A protests must be made first to the meet
referee. If the coach still feels after consulting with the referee that
the terms and conditions or the application of the rule(s) have been
misapplied or misinterpreted, a written appeal can be made to the jury
by the coach. This protest
must be made in writing to the Protest Clerk located in the
Administration Tent using a Protest Appeals Form supplied by the clerk. A $50 cash protest fee must be paid when a protest
is filed. The decision of the Jury of Appeals on all protests is final.
The fee will be refunded only if the protest is upheld.
Awards: Athletes should report to the awards tent in the middle
of the field once the award has been announced. Unclaimed awards will
not be mailed.
Individual awards: Custom medals 1-3, ribbons 4-8.
Meet MVPS: Plaques to Men & Women
Track, and Men & Women Field.
Event MVPS: Plaques to Men and
Women most outstanding performers in Hurdles, Sprints
(100, 200 & 400M dashes), Distance (800, 1600, 3200M
Runs), Jumps and Throws.
Team Awards: Cup trophies to the top
two Men and Women's teams.
Team scoring: 8 places using the 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scoring system.

From Eastern
North Carolina: Take I-40 west
to Asheville and get off at Exit 53A. Take Highway 74A south towards
Fairview, Bat Cave and Lake Lure for approximately 1 1/2 miles and turn
right at high school sign. Dalton Stadium is above the high school. Turn
left beyond the school buses.
From the Charlotte area: Take I-85 west from Charlotte and get on
Highway 74 west at Exit 10. Take 74 to I-26 north to Asheville. Get on
I-40 in Asheville at Exit 46. Take I-40 east and get off at Exit 53A.
Take Highway 74A south towards Fairview, Bat Cave and Lake Lure
for approximately 1 1/2 miles and turn right at high school sign.
Dalton Stadium is above the high school. Turn left beyond the school
buses.
From South Carolina: Take I-26 north from South Carolina to the
intersection of I-40 in Asheville at Exit 46. Take I-40 east and get off
at Exit 53. Take Highway 74A south towards Fairview, Bat Cave and Lake
Lure for approximately 1 1/2 miles and turn right at high school sign.
Dalton Stadium is above the high school. Turn left beyond the school
buses.
From Knoxville Tennessee area: Take I-40 east from Tennessee
and get off at Exit 53 in Asheville. Take Highway 74A south towards
Fairview, Bat Cave and Lake Lure for approximately 1 1/2 miles and turn
right at high school sign. Dalton Stadium is above the high school. Turn
left beyond the school buses.
From Kingsport Tennessee area: Take I-181 south to 19-23 and take
19-23 to Asheville. In Asheville take I-240 east and get off at Exit 9.
Take Highway 74A south towards Fairview, Bat Cave and Lake Lure
for approximately 2 miles and turn right at high school sign.
Dalton Stadium is above the high school. Turn left beyond the school
buses.
