Each year at the Blue Ridge Classic, two $500 educational scholarships will be awarded to one deserving male and one female athlete. One of our visions for this meet and this educational scholarship is to continue to allow participation in track and field to make a vital difference in the lives of track and field athletes long after their last high school meet. Our strong desire is to continue to support and underscore the positive role that track and field makes in the lives of athletes we've had the honor and privilege of watching and coaching over the past eight seasons of the Blue Ridge Classic. This scholarship hopefully will provide one more incentive of value for deserving track and field athletes. We hope to grow the number and amount of the scholarships we can offer each year. If you would like to know more about our plans, contact Robbin Brent Whittington via email or by phone 828-231-3923.

Here's how it will work the first year. In order to be eligible for a Blue Ridge Classic scholarship, the following criteria must be met:

  • The athlete must be nominated in advance by their team coach.
  • The athlete must be a graduating senior in for the year of the meet.
  • The athlete must be entered in the Blue Ridge Classic. Lack of actual participation the day of the meet because of injury or other valid reason will not exclude athlete from receiving the scholarship should they be chosen.
  • The athlete must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • The athlete must complete a 250–300 word essay describing the role track & field has played, and continues to play, in their life. The theme of the essay: "Track & Field and My Life."
  • Please list specific leadership qualities the athlete has demonstrated, either through the track club, school, or in his or her community.
